Once you’re comfortable with the accents, replace them with 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11.

Eventually, this is interchangeable with the phonic or sound of your choice, e.g., PAH puh puh PAH puh puh PAH puh PAH puh PAH puh. Think of it however you want – so long as you know which beat is which! The end goal is to internalize the rhythm and be able to identify each accent, especially beat 3 and 10 (more on that later), without actively counting through the cycle of 12.
